In the process of setting up the social networking website ROCK-TIL-YOU-DROP.COM, I have had the pleasure of hearing some great music by a lot of bands comprising musicians in their mid-30s and older. Many of these bands have a hard time getting the publicity and promotion for their records, that they deserve.
Most older musicians are over their ambitions of world domination. Many have been in bands since their teens and now have families and hold down full-time jobs in a wide variety of industries. While their passion and enthusiasm remains undiminished, as you might expect, they don't get as much time they once did to play rock music, let alone promote it. They would, however, all still like to gig regularly and get their music heard more widely. So I thought it was about time I helped make some of their music more visible (if you can make music visible?), more accessible, I should say.
Enter the ROCK-TIL-YOU-DROP-RECORD-SHOP...
The music business has changed dramatically since most of the musicians on this site were starting out. Back then it was all about getting that illusive record deal. These days there's no clear music business model to follow and one can only speculate about the way the industry will develop. But one thing's for sure, artists are taking back control of their music and are now able to release it themselves through big on-line music stores such as iTunes, Amazon and CD Baby, and smaller more specialised stores, such as this one. The record companies don't seem to have a clue about how to deal with the digital challenge to the old order and their out-dated modus operandi.
As sales of CDs decline, some record shops are going out of business; others are re-opening online. Ultimately, I'm sure even MP3 downloads will be replaced by subscription-based music streaming services like Spotify as they become more popular and widely available. But for now, downloads are still a relevant format, and CDs do still sell (a bit), so that's what the ROCK-TIL-YOU-DROP-RECORD-SHOP will be dealing in.
So please have a listen to the bands on the site, and join the mailing list for regular updates.
And if you are a musician or in a band that would like your music sold through the site, please go to and read the INFO FOR BANDS and then contact me by email (toby at rock-til-you-drop.com).
